Legal Counsel (6-12m FTC)

Role Purpose
To assist in delivering a range of legal services to the Australian operations (under the direction of the General Counsel, Australia & New Zealand) in all areas of the business, including Property & Casualty, Travel, Direct Marketing and Accident & Health brokerage business lines, Distribution, and Personal Lines businesses
Major duties/responsibilities are detailed in the individual's annual goals. These goals include the following items:
legal analysis and the provision of legal advice with respect to issues (including regulatory issues) arising from and in connection with Chubb's operations including business initiatives and transactions relating to insurance products, distribution methods and corporate agency arrangements;
legal review, negotiation and drafting of documents including insurance policy documents, contracts and agreements relevant to Chubb's operations such as distribution, broker, agency, sponsor, referral, marketing, administration (including scripts, brochures, welcome and upgrade letters and advertisements), service and confidentiality agreements;
selection, retainer and effective management of external counsel;
assisting in the development and maintenance of legal templates /precedent documents;
legal research tasks including monitoring changes and developments in the legal and regulatory landscape impacting Chubb and assist in the development of appropriate strategies to meet these developments, on a pro-active basis;
assisting with litigation strategies and management of defence /prosecution of legal action involving Chubb, in conjunction with external counsel where appropriate;
assisting in the coordination, implementation and maintenance of legal systems, policies and procedures and training programmes for staff on relevant legal (and regulatory compliance) issues;
providing feedback and input on compliance issues, including to the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, to ensure Chubb fulfils its obligations pursuant to key legislation and regulations governing the conduct of Chubb's business; and
maintaining awareness of legal requirements and communicating any changes to staff, as required.
This position may develop to include other tasks, which are commensurate with the Employee's abilities, in addition to those recorded here.
Experience & Qualifications
Law degree qualified with a minimum 5 years post qualification legal experience preferably in insurance and/or commercial law in either private legal practice or a corporate organisation (preferably an insurance company or other financial institution). Liitigation case management experience is preferable but not essential.
Strong strategic and analytical understanding of the financial sector and its regulatory frameworks, especially with respect to insurance.
Broad knowledge of laws impacting the financial sector and financial services laws and regulations (including Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act 2001(Cth)). Contractual and commercial law experience (including contract, policy wording and disclosure documentation drafting).
Ability to provide commercially-focussed legal support.
Ability to manage competing priorities and escalations.
Ability to work both autonomously and within a team.
Strong interpersonal skills
Demonstrated effective and pro-active communication and negotiation skills to be capable of dealing with all levels of Chubb personnel as well as external parties.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
