Senior Development Underwriter, Personal Lines, NSW

The Senior Development Underwriter (DU) is responsible for generating new business and meeting production targets by sourcing new producers and opportunities and continue to service existing brokers, utilising internal reports and adhering to a visitation program.
Major duties/responsibilities are detailed in the individual's annual goals. These goals include the following items:
Continue to build on existing producer relationships through constant contact and communication
Service and maintain relationships in NSW
Establish and build new relationships with potential producers that have prospective business that meets our underwriting guidelines
Maintain a robust list of realistic Prospects. Ensure continual follow up and review of list
Seeking cross marketing opportunities through target lists, identifying who the holding broker is and obtaining the submissions
Continually educate current and new producers as to our underwriting appetite, thus ensuring prospects meet our guidelines
Assess risks that do meet underwriting guidelines and ensure that the Underwriter receives the submission (see next point). If the risk does not meet our criteria, ensure that reasons for declining are explained clearly to the producer with a view to avoiding potential future conflict
Ensure that the Underwriter does not receive submissions that are outside our underwriting guidelines
Maintain record of visitation and ensure target number of visitation are achieved each month
Deliver the appraisal reports to the broker
Manage personal travel and promotional budgets within allocated Travel and Expense allocation
Assist brokers with product and business queries
Assist colleagues and Managers with product and business queries
Undertake practical measures to ensure that the workplace is safe and without risk to health
Assist in general department matters when required
Work with staff members in other departments to identify cross marketing opportunities as and when required
Act as senior technical referral point for risks outside of Underwriters scope of authority. May serve as higher level of underwriting authority for others in the team, or other branches
Provide expertise in all Personal Lines Products
Evaluate referrals from Underwriters, providing feedback where appropriate in the form of guidance and coaching
Identify and provide training to staff to ensure service and quality standards are adequately maintained
Essential:
Strong written and oral communication skills
Extensive underwriting experience in the Personal Lines market
Strong negotiation and marketing skills
Developing leadership skills with ability to coach and train others
Strong organisational and analytical skills
Strong understanding of Underwriting policy practice and policy documentation requirements, including terms and conditions as defined by industry regulations
Understanding the underwriting appetite of other departments
Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Understanding of the product range within the Personal Lines
Understanding of the insurance industry and Chubb's position in the market



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
